Frome Selwood Bowling Club Competition Rules
1. Entrants must have paid the annual club subscription and competition entry fee before commencing play.
2. Entries must be received by the Competition Secretary no later than the date stated on the entry form.
3. The handicaps will be decided prior to the draw taking place. All competitions will be seeded except for the Ladies’ and Mens’ Championships and the Ladies’ and Mens’ 2 wood Singles. The plus start in the Mixed Handicap must be entered at the top of the score card and score board before play commences. The Pairs will be drawn with one higher seeded player and one lower seeded player, (as far as possible) and the Triples will have one higher seeded player, one middle seeded player and one lower seeded player (as far as possible).
4. The first named competitor on the competition list shall be regarded as the Challenger and is responsible for arranging the match and supplying the Marker in Singles competitions. The Challenger shall also book the rink in the Rink Reservation Diary. In the spirit of good sportsmanship both parties should try to arrange the match in the first instance. If a date cannot be mutually agreed, the Challenger must offer three dates, two during the week and one at the weekend, avoiding all club and county competitions. If either competitor is working then both weekday offers must be arranged for play to commence after 6.00pm.
5. Each round must be played on or before the date stated on the Competition list. If a request of an extension is made to the Competition Secretary, he will consider the circumstances and decide accordingly. If the match is still not completed by the closing date the Competition Secretary will award the match accordingly. The Competition Secretary’s judgement will be final in any dispute.
6. Before the start of play of each game, one trial end each way shall be played with two bowls for each player.
7. The Ladies’ and Mens’ Championship and the Mixed Handicap will be played to 21 shots, Pairs to 21 ends and the Ladies’ and Mens’ 2 wood Singles to 21 ends. The Triples will be held on Club Triples Competition Day and teams will be drawn by the Competition Secretary or designated persons. This will consist of 3 matches of seven ends or 55 minutes, whichever comes sooner. After 55 minutes a bell will be rung, after which no further jacks will be set. Two points will be awarded for a win and 1 point for a tie and the two teams with the most points will proceed to the final. On Finals Day the Triples will be played to 18 ends.
8. On the day of the match no participant may play on the booked rink prior to the match.
9. If a match is tied at the completion of the ends detailed above an extra end will be played to decide the outcome of the match. A coin will be tossed to decide who has the jack.
10. Each participant must sign the card to agree the score. The winner of each round is responsible for placing the signed card in the competition box. The competition sheets will be up-dated by the Competition Secretary when the card has been scrutinised.
11. In pairs and triples one substitute is allowed. The substitute must be of equal or lower handicap than the original player and shall not have played or be due to play in the same competition. The substitute may play in any position other than Skip.
12. All competition finals will be played on Finals Day and will only be changed if unforeseen circumstances arise or if the green is unplayable, or if the Competition Secretary has previously agreed a change of date resulting from any other unforeseen factor. Members are not expected to play in any more than two finals on any one day. Should any member reach more than two finals then the matches will be played on the other Finals Day.
13. Any player or member of a team who, after 15 minutes, fails to arrive for the start of the game may have the game claimed against them.
14. Non-availability of Finalists shall be considered by the Competition Secretary prior to, or on Finals Day. Substitutes may be used if deemed necessary.
15. Dress shall be greys for all competition matches except those on Finals day which will be whites.
16. On entering any competition members agree to abide by the above rules and to accept as final in any dispute the judgement of the Competition Secretary.
17. Any items not covered above or disputes arising will be resolved by the Competition Secretary whose decision is final.
18. All trophy winners are required to return the trophies before the last match of the season by either handing them to the Competition Secretary or handing them in behind the bar before this date. Trophies must be cleaned prior to being returned.
